First EuroMillions Superdraw in 2024 Happening on 26th January
Last Updated: Wednesday 20th December 2023, 14:12 pm
Lottery officials have confirmed that the first EuroMillions Superdraw of the year will be held on Friday 26th January. Players across all nine participating countries will be able to enter for a chance to win a guaranteed starting jackpot of €130 million.
EuroMillions organisers seem to be eager to transform one or more lucky players into multi-millionaires at the start of the year. This is the first time when a Superdraw is held this early as most of these special draws are held in February or March. With the first Superdraw of the year happening sooner than expected, there is the possibility that more than four draws of this kind will take place in 2024.
The most recent Superdraw took place in December 2023 and it made history. The biggest jackpot in the history of the game, worth €240 million, was won and the jackpot cap has consequently been raised to €250 million. This is the maximum jackpot amount as stated in the EuroMillions game rules.
Ireland and EuroMillions Superdraws
So far, 41 EuroMillions Superdraws have been held since they were first launched in 2007. Out of these, the jackpot was brought home in Ireland twice.
The first time was back in 2013 on Tuesday 25th June when two players from Belgium and Ireland managed to match all seven winning numbers and split the €187.9 million jackpot. The Irish winner from Beaumont in North Dublin got an equal share worth €93.9 million.
Ireland was lucky for a second time, on 19th February 2019, when a family syndicate got the largest jackpot ever won in the country. The big prize initially started at a guaranteed €120 million but it rolled over until it reached the impressive amount of €175 million. While the lucky winners chose to remain anonymous, they shared that the moment was a ‘dream come true’ and said that, before claiming it, they kept the ticket in a catalogue under the mattress.
Could you be the third Irish player that brings home a Mega Jackpot? Make sure you save the date in your calendars, pick your numbers, then check your tickets to see if the odds were in your favour.
