Ireland could be set for another historic lottery moment in the coming days after the EuroMillions jackpot soared to a spectacularly high level. The top prize for the next draw is €115 million, putting it at the same level as the current record for an Irish winner.
Biggest Irish Winners
There have been 12 jackpot winners from Ireland since EuroMillions was launched in 2004. The country’s biggest success to date came very early in the game’s history, when part-time cleaner Dolores McNamara matched all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars to pocket €115.4 million.
An Irish ticket holder also grabbed half of a jackpot worth €187.9 million in June 2013. They picked up €93.9 million after splitting the prize with someone from Belgium, and said they were ‘thrilled’ as they picked up the money anonymously. If there is a single Irish winner the next time the jackpot is given away, it could well be that they become the country’s new record holder. They will certainly become the biggest winner of 2018, as the top prize has not been won since Friday 29th December. On that occasion it was also an Irish ticket which won, as a family syndicate from Dublin came forward to claim €38.9 million.
Irish Lotto’s Landmark Draw
The prospect of a big EuroMillions winner comes just days after Irish Lotto marked its 3,000th draw on Saturday night. Nobody won the jackpot of €4.5 million, but more than 50,000 players won prizes on a special night.
