Silly or Sensible: How Would You Spend a EuroMillions Win?

Two EuroMillions winners from Westmeath picked up their cheque for €61,965 at Irish Lottery headquarters in Dublin yesterday after matching all five main numbers in the draw on Tuesday night. The anonymous couple, who played a Quick Pick at a service station in Athlone, only checked their ticket after hearing where the winning slip had been purchased on the radio and have now promised to use their win wisely.
“We are going to be very sensible with our winnings and use the money to firstly pay off our bills and then we will start work on our home renovations" the couple were quoted as saying by the Westmeath Independent. Would you be sensible with a big win in tonight’s €24 million EuroMillions draw, or would you follow in a long tradition of lottery winners who splashed out on some weird and wonderful items?
A Dublin family scooped a €7.3 million Irish Lotto fortune in September 2015 and, among the usual holidays and new cars, high up on their shopping list was a new house in which they planned to build a slide so, in their words, “we can get downstairs quicker.” In the UK, one lottery winner bought a pair of new hips for his wife, another bought the house next door to turn into a pub and bus driver Sean Lloyd built a fountain in the grounds of the mansion he bought with a £1.8 million (€2.2 million) win, shaped like some crossed fingers holding a penny. Sean had put his win down to good luck from finding a penny on the day he bought the tickets that made him a millionaire, so created the water feature as a tribute.
Of course, with €24 million in your bank account, you would have plenty of scope to blow a stack of cash on fun and frivolity and still have plenty left over to see you, your children and grandchildren right for decades to comes. Official Irish Lottery advice is to take your time after you discover that you have won big, think things over and then seek out expert legal and financial advice.
For the chance to pocket an eight-figure sum this evening, you can buy EuroMillions tickets online through the Lottery Tickets page or from any authorised retailer across Ireland. Good luck!
