**UPDATED** A lucky Irish EuroMillions player has made contact with the Irish National Lottery after scooping a fabulous €28.9 million on Friday night. It is the second time this year that a ticket bought in Ireland has won the jackpot, following the success of a Dublin syndicate in January which pocketed €88.5 million.
The winning numbers on Friday 7th July were 11, 20, 35, 37 and 45, with Lucky Stars 3 and 6. There were 48,233 participants from Ireland who picked up prizes on a landmark night, as the total amount of money won in the country since EuroMillions was launched broke through the €1 billion barrier.
The ticket holder will meet with lottery bosses to discuss and validate their claim in the next few days and details as to the location of the shop at which the ticket was bought will be revealed, as fans across the country wait to find out more information about the new multimillionaire. Dermot Griffin, the National Lottery’s chief executive, said: “This is an incredible amount of money to win...We are delighted to have another Irish winner of EuroMillions.”
The winner has also been advised to stay calm and keep the ticket safe until the money is in their bank. Griffin added: “Winning this amount can be a huge shock. Make sure you get good legal and financial advice.”
The Irish National Lottery has now raised more than €4.9 billion for good causes since it was established in 1987, with around €0.30 of every €1 spent on tickets going towards worthy projects. Games such as EuroMillions have also created thousands of big winners, including Dolores McNamara, who snapped up a national record of €115.4 million when she claimed the jackpot in July 2005.
