Irish Player Wins €49 Million EuroMillions Jackpot

Last Updated: Thursday 29th July 2021, 13:33 pm

A lucky ticket holder became Ireland’s biggest EuroMillions winner of the year in Tuesday night’s draw, scooping a jackpot worth more than €49 million.

The winning numbers for 21st July were 14, 15, 24, 29 and 42, plus Lucky Stars 2 and 4. The top prize had been climbing since it was last won two weeks earlier, and a single entry matched all the numbers to halt the run of rollovers.

No more details were released immediately after the draw about where the winning ticket was sold, but it was later revealed that it was an online purchase from someone in the Leinster area.

Take a look at the EuroMillions Results page to view a full prize breakdown from the draw, including details of the Ireland Only Raffle and the EuroMillions Plus numbers.

The winner had 90 days to come forward and claim their money, after the claims period returned to normal earlier this month. An extension had previously been in place to give players an extra three months to collect prizes during the height of the coronavirus outbreak.

The ticket holder came in to National Lottery headquarters in Dublin on Friday 7th August, collecting her prize anonymously but revealing a few details about how she felt when she discovered she had won.

She said: "On the night of the draw, I checked my phone around midnight and there was an email to say I had won a prize on my EuroMillions ticket. I'd regularly win prizes here and there so when I logged in, I half expected to see that I'd won a few euros and I even hoped that it might be a few hundred.

"What happened next will stick with me for the rest of my life. On the ticket, it said that there was one winner of the EuroMillions jackpot and that winner was me."

The woman added that she will share her prize with loved ones. She said: “This is such a huge prize and it gives me a great deal of responsibility and of course freedom to help an awful lot of good for the people closest to me. I am going to surround myself with some people to properly advise me on the best way to make plans for my money, but my main priority is to help my family and friends."

The other jackpot win in Ireland this year came back on 11th February, when someone from Castlebar in Connacht landed €17 million. Remarkably, it was the town’s third EuroMillions jackpot win.

Ireland has now crowned 18 jackpot winners, including one in February 2019 which set a new record for the country’s largest lottery payout. It went to a family syndicate from The Naul in County Dublin, who pocketed €175 million. Find out more about Ireland’s biggest EuroMillions winners.

There have been 15 EuroMillions jackpot winners already this year, including two from Ireland. The top prize for the next draw will be €17 million and you can play now by visiting an authorised National Lottery retailer or taking part online.
