A lucky pensioner has announced that he plans to spend six months of the year abroad now that he has become a millionaire through the Irish Lottery. The Dubliner won €1,005,000 on the Ireland Only Raffle last Friday and is looking forward to using the money to help out his loved ones.
Everyone who plays EuroMillions is automatically entered into the Ireland Only Raffle, and in most regular draws there are ten guaranteed prizes of €5,000. A special draw was held on Friday 16th March ahead of St Patrick’s day, with one of the winners randomly selected to receive an extra €1 million.
'Massive News'
The ticket bearing the code I-DLR-55064 was drawn as the big winner, and it was quickly revealed that the entry had been bought at a Costcutter in Windy Arbour in Dundrum, Dublin. The lucky player has now come forward, and told officials that it came as quite a shock to them.
He said: "I hadn’t a notion that I’d won it! I checked my tickets in my local store over the weekend and the shopkeeper told me I won something but I didn’t know what. I was delighted when I learned I had won. It’s massive news to take in so will take some time out to consider what this win will do for me and my family.”
While the winner, who has decided to remain anonymous, will not rush into into anything, he does not see the need to stay in Ireland all-year round from now on. He added: "One thing is for sure, I will be enjoying time in a sunnier climate. I won’t be leaving for good but I’ll be able to spend at least six months of the year abroad. I definitely won’t miss the Irish winters.
“I have always dreamed of living on one of the islands in the Caribbean but my actual pension did not stretch that far. The €1 million win means that I can escape Irish winters here and live the dream!”
