Ireland In Sight Of EuroMillions Milestone As Jackpot Grows

The total in Irish EuroMillions winnings could be set to cross the €1 billion barrier in tonight’s draw, as players go in search of the biggest jackpot of the year. A run of nine rollovers has pushed the top prize up to €97 million, and a flurry of ticket sales could even propel the final amount past the nine-figure mark.
Ireland already holds the record for the largest prize given away so far in 2017, after a lucky syndicate scooped €88.5 million on Tuesday 24th January. There is an even bigger jackpot up for grabs tonight, and hopes are high that a wonderful year for players from the country will continue. An Irish National Lottery spokesperson said: “If the country has a winner it will bring to over €1 billion the total in Irish EuroMillions prizes. We are very excited that we are near that milestone.”
There have so far been ten jackpot winners from Ireland since EuroMillions began in 2004, headlined by Dolores McNamara. Dolores, a part-time cleaner and mother of six from Limerick, landed €115.4 million in July 2005 and briefly held the title of the biggest lottery winner from Europe.
The luck of the Irish has also extended to EuroMillions Plus, with 11 players winning €500,000 each on the supplementary game since the start of the year. Players can opt to enter EuroMillions Plus when they take part in EuroMillions, giving their numbers an extra chance to win a prize.
