The luck of the Irish was certainly with one Galway girl who won a EuroMillions prize of €297,860. Niamh O’Meara, who matched five main numbers and one Lucky Star in the draw on Tuesday 4th April, revealed that she was ‘down to her last €24’ before landing the six-figure sum.
Niamh, who purchased her winning Quick Pick ticket from SuperValu on Clonfert Avenue in the market town of Portumna, was delighted when she found out her numbers had been drawn and told National Lottery officials that the win couldn’t have come at a better time: “Last week the registration plate fell off the back of the car. I had to resort to the sellotape to keep it hanging on,” she said.
A long-time lottery lover, Niamh has been participating in draws since she was 18 and was a firm believer that she would eventually secure a sizeable sum: “I play the Euromillions every Tuesday and Friday, and pick up the odd scratch card every now and again. I always felt I would win the lottery, and that one day I would be here in the National Lottery picking up a cheque,” beamed the fortunate fan.
Niamh, who insisted that the win was a gift from her late mother, already has plenty of plans for her windfall: “My first purchase was a brand new car,” she said, before adding: “I’m off on holidays on Monday to celebrate and after that a new house and some celebrations with the family are in order.”
Niamh wasn’t the only player to win big thanks to EuroMillions. Tuesday evening’s draw saw one lucky ticket holder from France land an incredible €83.3 million jackpot after they correctly matched the numbers 5, 21, 22, 31 and 49, as well as the Lucky Numbers 2 and 8.
If you would like to win a EuroMillions prize of your own, Friday’s EuroMillions jackpot will be worth a guaranteed €17 million.
