EuroMillions: Leitrim Man Claims €1 Million Ireland Only Raffle Prize

A man from Co Leitrim who won over €1 million in the Ireland Only Raffle has revealed that he thought his ticket was only worth €5,000. The lucky player purchased his ‘White Ticket’ Quick Pick from the Newtowngore Post Office on the day of the draw on Friday 17th February, and has been left stunned by his seven-figure windfall.
The game on 17th February marked the first time that the Ireland Only Raffle had created a millionaire since its launch last September. Usually there are ten prizes of €5,000, but as a one-off the winners were then placed in a separate draw for an additional €1 million.
The man from Leitrim had no idea about the special prize until he came forward, and he will now ‘take some time to reflect on the win’ before making any plans. He told reporters: “I was checking the results on the TV on the night of the draw and I noticed that I had one of the winning EuroMillions raffle numbers and I was absolutely over the moon with the €5,000 prize.
“The next day, I went into the shop to see how I could claim my prize money when all of a sudden the shopkeeper took me to one side. You’ve won one million and five thousand euro they said. I was stunned. I quietly put the ticket into my back pocket and made my way home as quick as I could. It’s a great win for the local Post Office and it will give a nice boost to the area.”
There will be another chance for Irish lottery fans to pick up a huge prize in tonight’s EuroMillions draw, when a jackpot of €35 million will be up for grabs. The top prize in Irish Lotto is also up to an impressive €13 million ahead of tomorrow night’s draw, following another rollover on Saturday.
