A EuroMillions player who bought their ticket at the An Post in Newtowngore, Co Leitrim is €1 million better off after becoming the first Ireland Only Raffle player ever to scoop a seven-figure sum. The supplementary game usually creates ten winners of €5,000 in each draw, but Friday 17th February saw the successful codes entered into an additional draw to create a brand new millionaire.
Irish EuroMillions ticket holders are automatically entered into the Ireland Only Raffle when they play the main game, with one code being generated for every line they purchase. It was introduced in September 2016, when a number of changes were made to EuroMillions across Europe.
The latest big win continues a run of good fortune for Irish players that also includes a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus jackpot pocketed on the same night. The winning ticket was bought at Gleeson’s Spar on Henry Street in Limerick, and owner Michael Gleeson announced he was “thrilled” at the news. His store had previously sold a €467,000-winning EuroMillions entry and an Irish Lotto ticket worth more than €1 million.
In recent weeks, a Meath man snapped up €239,149, a Galway couple banked €369,791 and a Dublin syndicate outdid them all by claiming the €88.5 million jackpot on the pan-European game.
