Dublin Family Shocked To Become EuroMillions Millionaires

A family from Dublin have quickly come forward to collect the €1 million prize they won in Tuesday’s EuroMillions draw. They were initially delighted when they thought they had won €5,000, before realising that they had actually become millionaires.
The Ireland Only Raffle draw on Tuesday 3rd December was the first of two special EuroMillions events this week. Ten winners were selected at random to receive €5,000 as always, but then a separate draw took place in which one of those winners was chosen to receive an extra €1 million.
The lucky ticket had the raffle code IHKM23791, and was sold in the corporate Business Park in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The ticket belonged to a family syndicate, who have now visited National Lottery headquarters to receive their cheque.
Speaking about their win, one member of the group revealed that she had been looking at the results and noticed that they had not matched any of the numbers in the main EuroMIllions draw. However, she then scanned their ticket with an app and saw that they had won a prize, with a message coming up to say they should contact the National Lottery.
She continued: “I went back online to check again and saw that I was a raffle winner. I thought it was €5,000 and I was jumping around the house. I called my daughter who was only after walking up the stairs to bed and she checked it.
“I thought, lovely, I’m going to get a new kitchen out of this. Then she said, ‘Mam, I think you’ve won a million quid. I didn’t sleep a wink that night, it’s just amazing to think we won the prize.”
How the Ireland Only Raffle Works
You are automatically entered into the Ireland Only Raffle every time you buy a EuroMIllions ticket in Ireland, with one raffle code generated for each line of numbers you play. The code consists of four letters - always starting with an I - and five numbers.
Ten winning codes are randomly selected and you win €5,000 if your code matches up with one of these exactly - with every character in the same place. Only codes that have been generated and sold are entered into the draw, so the prizes are always guaranteed to be won.
The National Lottery holds special draws from time to time where one of the ten winners also receives an additional €1 million. The most recent raffle of this kind was held on Friday 5th July, when a player from Co. Laois landed the seven-figure payout.
Another €1 million will be given away in the Ireland Only Raffle on Friday 6th December, while the EuroMillions jackpot will also be worth €17 million. Remember to keep an eye on the results after every draw and use the EuroMillions Checker to find out if you are a winner.
