Co Wicklow Couple Discover €500,000 EuroMillions Plus Ticket in Handbag

A husband and wife duo from Co Wicklow are celebrating a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus jackpot win after checking a month-old ticket. The pair were blissfully unaware of their six-figure windfall until the wife inspected the inside of her handbag, only to find a number of unexamined tickets lurking amongst the contents.
The couple, who have opted for anonymity, purchased their ticket from Kilmacanogue Esso Service Station prior to the draw on Tuesday 20th September, but failed to check the playslip straight away. The discovery certainly came as a shock to the pair, who hadn’t realised they were in possession of a very valuable commodity for such a long period of time. "To think, I’d a ticket worth half a million Euro in my handbag!” the wife told National Lottery officials. “I didn’t get around to checking them until yesterday and got a message on the scanner to contact the National Lottery.”
The husband was just as thunderstruck, but kept his cool as he contacted National Lottery headquarters: "I was very calm when I phoned the National Lottery to confirm. I read out the number on the ticket and was told we’d won half a million.” However, it was a different story once it had been confirmed that the couple had won: "well, then I lost my calm. I’ve been shaking ever since," the husband admitted.
This year certainly has proved to be a successful one for players of EuroMillions Plus. In claiming the jackpot, the lucky couple, who were in possession of one of two winning tickets on the night, became one of an astonishing 21 winners to take home the €500,000 top prize since the start of the calendar year.
