Irish Lotto-Winning Mother Picks Up Eggs and €5.6 Million

Irish Lotto-Winning Mother Picks Up Eggs and €5.6 Million

Last Updated: Tuesday 27th September 2022, 10:02 am

An Irish Lotto player had her mother-in-law and some last minute inspiration to thank for her €5.6 million success on Saturday night. The lucky winner bought her Quick Pick ticket at a different store from her usual haunt because her husband’s mother needed some eggs, and told the press that “something” told her to play three lines instead of her regular two.

Irish Lotto Jackpot Win

News filtered out after Saturday’s Irish Lotto draw that a ticket in Crosshaven, Co Cork had matched all six main numbers. The winning line was 2, 17, 24, 25, 35 and 40, with Bonus Ball 36, and the jackpot value of €5.6 million had accumulated over the course of eight rollovers.

Excitement in the town of just over 2,000 inhabitants, situated at the mouth of the River Owenabue, centred on Bernard Lynch’s Centra store, where the winner played her numbers.

Irish Lotto Winner

Talking at the Irish National Lottery’s Dublin headquarters, Saturday’s winner laughed about her mother-in-law’s fortuitous shopping mission, saying “ever since Saturday night, she’s been taking all of the credit for the Lotto win – her and her lucky eggs."

Although she and her husband have opted to remain anonymous, she told lottery officials that she is a regular Irish Lotto player, usually staking on two Quick Pick lines at a different shop. However on Saturday, whilst picking up the groceries, she broke with tradition. “When I got to the till, something told me to buy an extra line and of course that was the lucky line which won us the €5.6 million,” she recounted, “somebody was definitely looking after me that day."

Plans for the Irish Lotto Jackpot

Although the winner’s mother-in-law will surely lay claim to a slice of the €5.6 million fortune, the winner said that the only thing she knows for certain about the windfall is that she will use it to look after her young children’s futures.

For the moment, she admitted that that win had yet to sink in and she and her husband are waiting for the cash to hit their bank account and to settle back into their usual routine before they make any big decisions about how to deal with their fortune.

What do Irish Lotto Winners Spend Their Money On?

Many Irish Lotto winners are shell shocked by their success and tell lottery officials that they need time to decide how to spend their cash. Most confirm that they will use the money to look after their families, but some have more outlandish plans

A Dublin family, who won €7.3 million in September 2015, told reporters they intended to buy a big new house with a slide installed, so they could “get downstairs quicker”.
