EuroMillions Plus Breaks Record For Annual Winners

A bumper year for EuroMillions Plus players continued on Friday night as someone from Co Clare won the top prize of €500,000. There have now been a record number of jackpot wins, 28, on the supplementary game this year, with more than six weeks still to go in 2017.
“Ireland is on a winning streak with EuroMillions this year, with 28 of our players boosting their bank balances,” said a spokesperson for the Irish National Lottery over the weekend. “We urge everybody to check their tickets and look forward to welcoming them into the National Lottery Winners’ Room.”
Oblivious For A Month
Anyone who wins an Irish National Lottery prize has 90 days from the date of the draw to come forward, so there is plenty of time for the latest winner to make their claim. Some ticket holders are slow to realise their good fortune, though, just like another player from Co Clare who won the EuroMillions Plus top prize on 6th October.
The lucky lady finally came forward at the weekend, and revealed that she had not checked her ticket for a month. It had not occurred to her that she might have won a EuroMillions Plus prize, as her main focus had been on trying to land the record EuroMillions jackpot of €190 million.
The woman, who bought her ticket at Barry’s Mace Store in Ardnacrusha, said: “I heard the following day that the jackpot was won in Spain, so I didn’t even bother checking the results. I didn’t know anything about a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus prize.
Still Celebrating
“A few weeks later we were at home and I casually mentioned that I got a EuroMillions ticket in Ardnacrusha. The house went absolutely wild with the anticipation as we searched for this ticket and we haven’t stopped celebrating since.”
The winner plans to be sensible with her winnings, but she also wants to buy herself a new car and go on a nice family holiday. She said: “The shopping list has been drawn up so we’ve a small few things to buy before we start acting sensibly with the money. I’m driving a banger of a car at the moment so I’ll definitely be trading that up! We’ll take care of the family of course but not before I take them all away on a sun holiday before Christmas.”
