A EuroMillions player from Cork has admitted he surprised himself with his calm reaction to winning a great prize in a recent draw, having always thought that he would find it hard to stay grounded.
The online player won an impressive €195,442 after matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star on Tuesday 19th May. Having waited a few weeks to come forward, he has now claimed his prize from Lottery Headquarters in Dublin and recounted his story.
He told lottery officials: “When I logged into my account to check my ticket, I was expecting to see €3, certainly not €195,442! I always thought I’d be jumping up and down if this ever happened, but I stayed surprisingly calm and collected."
The lucky winner added that he had not planned any major celebrations yet as he was still considering what to do with his winnings.
Another EuroMillions player had no such hesitation when asked how he would spend his prize this week, setting his sights on a trip to Scandinavia. The Dublin man purchased his winning ticket from Nolan’s Supermarket, Unit 5, 49 Vernon Avenue, Clontarf, and landed €18,903 for matching five numbers in the draw on Friday 29th May.
He said: “It was a few days after the draw and I asked the sales assistant to scan my ticket, and to my surprise, the slip she handed me said 'Contact the National Lottery'. At this point, I knew I'd won a bigger prize than expected. My immediate reaction was ‘this is going on holidays for sure’. Norway has always been on the travel list, so it’s looking like I can start planning!”
A EuroMillions Superdraw had been scheduled for 5th June, but it ended up being put on hold as the jackpot had already climbed higher than the advertised €130 million following a long run of rollovers.
Ultimately, a player from Belgium won €174.9 million in the following draw on Tuesday 9th June, dashing Irish hopes of another huge summer win. A family syndicate from Cork scooped €250 million in June 2025 after a Superdraw was cancelled a couple of weeks earlier.
The jackpot is now back to its starting value of €17 million, with draws continuing every Tuesday and Friday night. See the latest EuroMillions Results as soon as the numbers are available.
