€4.5 Million Irish Lotto Jackpot Shared by Two Ticket Holders

Saturday’s Irish Lotto draw produced not one, but two winning ticket holders who will share a jackpot of €4.5 million. The lucky winners from Co Kerry and Co Donegal each played Quick Pick tickets and are set to receive just over €2.2 million each.
The winning Donegal ticket was sold in the Centra Food Market in Carrigart, Letterkenny, and the store’s manager revealed that this isn’t the first time that a winning ticket has been sold in the shop. Shaun Boyce told the Irish Mirror: “This is the third big one we’ve had in recent years. We had a winner seven or eight years ago and another one two years ago.” Shaun believes his stores have been very lucky, but is unaware of who the winner might be. The business owner revealed that the town usually receives a lot of visitors, but he is holding out hope that they may be from the area. “It is likely someone local, we have a lot of visitors in the summer but at the moment, there wouldn’t be many tourists.”
Meanwhile, over in Kerry, a similar search is on to track down the holder of the other winning ticket. The second lucky player purchased their ticket from Hannah Mary’s Country Store XL in Killorglin, something that the store’s owner, Jerome Griffin described as a big thrill, especially under the business's current circumstances: “It’s nearly overwhelming, with that amount and for such a small country store. We’ve only had that lottery machine in since April 2015, we are only just working on marketing that we even had the Lotto in our store.”
Jerome also told reporters that the win has generated a considerable amount of excitement in the store and the surrounding area. “I’m in Dublin at the moment but I’ve been getting a lot of phone calls from the store, there’s a lot of excitement, a big buzz in the shop this morning. People coming in, wondering who it is and how much it is.” However, despite the brouhaha created by the win, Jerome remains firmly in the dark as to who bought the winning ticket: “I’ve no idea at all. I would be thinking that it is going to be a local because a lot of our customers would be local. It’s a small community. I would be expecting it’ll be someone from the locality.”
News of these latest jackpot winners followed reports that a syndicate of brothers and sisters from Dublin came forward on Thursday evening to claim the second half of a €4.6 million prize from Saturday 10th September. The siblings, who have already started planning a family holiday, are now €2.3 million richer after buying their lucky ticket from Dunnes Stores on George Street in the nation’s capital on the day of the draw. The collection of this prize follows another family syndicate who claimed their half of the prize on Friday 21st September.
If all this talk of big winners has left you wanting to scoop a prize of your own, this Wednesday’s Irish Lotto jackpot is worth an estimated €2 million.
