Woman Finds Winning Irish Lotto Ticket in ‘Bulging Handbag’

A woman from Kilkenny received the nicest surprise of her life when she rummaged through her ‘bulging handbag’ and found an Irish Lotto ticket worth €139,025. The lucky lady had been carrying the valuable entry around with her for a fortnight before she realised just what sort of prize was coming her way.
The winner, who has chosen not to go public, admitted that she had found a number of Lotto tickets in her bag. She had heard about Saturday’s €11.1 million jackpot being snapped up by a player from Co Leitrim and hoped that she might be able to pocket a bit of money, but never expected that it would be almost €140,000.
It turned out she had matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball on Saturday 6th August and was the biggest winner of that night’s game, when the numbers drawn were 6, 17, 18, 30, 40 and 43 with Bonus Ball 46.
“My handbag was bulging and I decided to clear the load yesterday. There were a few Lotto tickets in there,” said the woman as she picked up her prize from National Lottery headquarters in Dublin. "I'd just seen the news that the big jackpot was won in Leitrim but I thought, sure you never know, there might be a few quid on these.
"I checked the tickets on the scanner in the shop and was surprised when I got a message to contact the National Lottery. When I found out how much I won, I was absolutely delighted.”
The lucky lady will be thankful that she cleared her handbag when she did, as players of Irish lottery games have 90 days from the date of a draw to claim any prizes they are due. You can visit the Irish Lotto Results Checker to find out if any of the tickets you have recently bought have any winning combinations.
There is also another Irish Lotto draw to look forward to this evening, when the jackpot will stand at €2 million following Saturday’s big win. If you wish to play you can either enter online or by visiting any authorised retailer in Ireland. Just remember to keep your tickets in a safe place if you do buy them from a retailer, rather than burying them too deep in your bag! Good luck!
