As Irish Lotto participants look to get their hands on a jackpot of €2 million tonight to set them up for the best St Patrick’s Day ever, the celebrations have already begun in one corner of the country after Saturday’s top prize of €2.5 million was won in Waterford City.
The ticket was bought at the Spar in Ferrybank and the identity of the winners has already been revealed in the local press. According to Waterford Local Radio, a syndicate of 12 colleagues from Bausch and Lomb, an eye health product supply company, matched all six main numbers with an entry they made on the afternoon of the draw.
It is reported that the workers, who will each pocket over €214,000, have been playing together for 16 years and have always used the same numbers. Syndicate member Alan Smith, who picked up the ticket, has been quoted as saying that nobody believed him when he first announced the news of the life-changing win.
Saturday’s jackpot success followed hot on the heels of the player from Sligo who won a massive €8.2 million one week earlier, making it a stunning start to March for Irish Lotto players. Visit the Irish Lotto Results page to find out all the information about recent draws.
It will be a special day tomorrow regardless of whether or not the top prize gets snapped up again tonight, but it would certainly add to the occasion of St Patrick’s Day if you had a bit more spending money in your back pocket, perhaps even a seven-figure amount. Entries can be bought online from anywhere in the world or from authorised retailers in Ireland. Best of luck!
