A man from Tipperary has admitted he was so excited to discover that he had won Saturday’s €500,000 top prize on Irish Lotto Plus 1 that he nearly drove off the road on his way home. The lucky player bought his Quick Pick ticket at Centra in Parkmore, Roscrea, Co Tipperary on the day of the draw, and matched all six main numbers.
The winner found out about his success at work and says the realisation left him ‘absolutely numb, like an out-of-body experience’. He added: “I got straight into my car and I almost drove into a ditch on the way home. I had to completely stop and compose myself if I was to get home in one piece.”
The man, who has decided to remain anonymous, came forward to claim his prize earlier this week and explained just how much the win meant to him and his new wife. He said: “The timing of the win couldn't be more perfect. We have just been married and we only recently started looking for houses to buy. It is a great comfort knowing that we will be able to buy our dream house without a mortgage.”
While the player from Tipperary contacted Irish National Lottery officials very quickly after his win last Saturday, another ticket holder from Cork looks set to miss out on their amazing prize. The 90-day deadline for the player to claim their €1 million from the Christmas Millionaire Raffle will arrive at the end of the working day on Friday, and anyone who bought a ticket is being urged to have one final check to see if they matched the raffle number 179740. The ticket was purchased at the Topaz Service Station on Lower Tivoli Road in Cork on 21st December.
