A man from Limerick is ready to rent out his taxi after winning the EuroMillions Plus jackpot. The lucky player had set his sights on a big lottery win seven years ago just before his mother died, and Friday night’s €500,000 payday has left him feeling ‘on top of the world’.
Eddie Costelloe, from Moyross, matched the numbers 11, 12, 15, 32 and 44 in the EuroMillions Plus draw on Friday 31st July after buying a ticket at his local Circle K filling station in Thomondgate.
He regularly plays numbers linked to important dates, but on this occasion he bought a Quick Pick after a long day at work as a driver for a delivery firm. When he saw that his numbers had come up, his first thoughts were for his mum Helen, who passed away in 2013.
Eddie explained: “On my mother’s deathbed, I said to her ‘Mam, I’m going to win the lotto one of these days’, and she said ‘son, you will’, and I’ve been chasing this for a long time. Seven years it took me, and I got it.”
The father of two had only taken up his position with the delivery firm because he was not getting as much work as normal in his regular job as a taxi driver. Now that he has pocketed €500,000, he has no intention of going back to his taxi work.
He said: “I’m top of the world, top of the world. We are sorted for life. I’m going to rent out my taxi because I don’t want to be listening to drunk people anymore - I’m finished, I’m done.”
Although he is done with his taxi work, Eddie and his wife Antoinette, a care worker, are not yet ready to retire. “It’s not going to (stop) me from working, because it’s not in me to sit around. I’ll always work,” he insisted.
Eddie is looking forward to purchasing a new van for work, while Antoinette is ‘going to pick her new car, whatever she wants’. They are also planning to buy their house and a holiday home in Lanzarote, while Eddie is thinking about getting a season ticket to watch his beloved Liverpool.
