Sligo Irish Lotto Win to be Paid

The mystery surrounding a Sligo Irish Lotto win of €8.2 million from Saturday 5th March seems to have been resolved. A solicitor representing the ticket holder told RTÉ that the National Lottery has agreed to pay out the full sum as well as the interest it has accrued since his client initially came forward more than a month ago. Tony McLynn confirmed that all parties were happy with what he described as a “good outcome”.
It was revealed last week that a claim had been made for the prize, but the player had yet to be paid, leading to theories that the ticket might have been bought by a stag party from Donegal who had been spotted in the town on the night. It was suggested that arguments over ownership of the slip and which members were due a cut were behind the delay. McLynn issued a statement on behalf of his client late last week to deny these claims, telling the state broadcaster “the rumour mill was sent into overdrive”.
McLynn suggested that the delay in paying the prize had made it seem like there was some issue with the claim, given the fact that game rules state officials can “withhold payment of a prize until it is entirely satisfied as to the validity of any ticket and the claimant’s bona fides.” They also stipulate tickets must “not be mutilated, altered, illegible, incomplete or tampered with in any manner.”
The National Lottery would not confirm when the payment will be made, but stated that the press and public would be updated once the winner has received their prize.
Saturday’s Irish Lotto saw the jackpot roll over for a sixth time since a Wexford syndicate claimed €7.9 million in the draw on Saturday 23rd April. The winning numbers were 19, 20, 24, 31, 43 and 47 with Bonus Ball 3 and the top prize won on the night was €66,593 for one ticket holder who matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball.
