For Richer and Richer: Kildare Couple Scoops €500,000 EuroMillions Plus Prize

It’s richly ever after for one newlywed couple after they won the €500,000 EuroMillions Plus jackpot just weeks after tying the knot.
Few things can compare to the joy of marrying your sweetheart, but when doing so is followed by a life-changing lottery win, you’d be forgiven for thinking that someone might be looking down on you. That’s precisely what happened to a couple from Co. Kildare who, just weeks after getting married, matched all five numbers to win the top prize in the EuroMillions Plus draw on Friday, 4th November.
EuroMillions Plus is a supplementary game just for Irish EuroMillions players, with players paying an additional fee to enter their five main EuroMillions balls into an Ireland-only draw offering prizes ranging from €20 to €500,000.
The prize-winning pair purchased their lucky ticket from a News 4 U newsagent at the Glenroyal Shopping Centre in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, on the day of the draw, leaving their numbers to Lady Luck by opting for a Quick Pick ticket rather than choosing their own. However, it wasn’t until Monday morning that the couple realised they’d won big.
"I was absolutely stunned when I saw the winning numbers,” the doubly happy husband told reporters. “I made my way up to where my wife works and when we saw each other, we just cried tears of joy as we hugged.”
“This past month has been a dream come true with the wedding and everything,” he added, “but to top it all off with a half a million Euro win is beyond any dream we could have.”
Due to work commitments, the couple have yet to be able to take any time off for a proper honeymoon. But with an extra €500K now in the bank, they have decided to book a holiday in the new year to celebrate properly, after which they plan to buy their own home — something that they never thought possible up until just a few days ago.
This Friday’s estimated EuroMillions jackpot currently stands at a tantalising €17 million, with, of course, the additional option of joining in EuroMillions Plus for a shot at the same €500,000 prize the lucky newlyweds landed.
