Limerick Man Eyes Special Christmas After Big Lotto Win

An Irish Lotto player from Limerick has insisted that he will not let a €250,000 win change him or his lifestyle, but he is looking forward to enjoying a wonderful Christmas with his loved ones and is also determined to help others.
The lucky man landed the top prize in Saturday’s Lotto Plus 2 draw, matching the numbers 7, 9, 15, 41, 42 and 45. He had initially thought that he might have won the €5.7 million Lotto jackpot, but was still delighted with his six-figure windfall.
“I have a tradition that I scan my Lotto tickets every Sunday morning in the kitchen with my girlfriend,” said the man, who has decided to remain anonymous, when he called into National Lottery HQ to claim his prize on Tuesday.
Terrific Win
“Last Sunday she was upstairs so I scanned the ticket on my own and I got a message to say congratulations I had won a big prize and to contact the National Lottery. I was convinced I had won the jackpot and when I checked the results I saw it was the Lotto Plus 2. But it is still a terrific win.”
The winner revealed that making a donation to a children’s charity was top of his list for what he wants to do with the money. He would also like to buy a car for his girlfriend, who is learning to drive, but is adamant that there won’t be many extravagant purchases.
“It won’t change me or my life - everything will continue as normal but it is a great cushion to have and it will also mean an extra special Christmas,” said the man, who bought his Quick Pick ticket from Tesco’s Supermarket in the Crescent Shopping Centre In Dooradoyle.
Why Play Lotto Plus?
Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 are supplementary games that can be played alongside Irish Lotto. You just need to select the Plus option when you buy a Lotto ticket and pay a small extra fee, and your numbers from the main game will be entered into these two extra draws to give you more chances to win big prizes.
The Lotto Plus 1 jackpot recently increased to €1 million, while more prize tiers were added to both Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2. The changes left the odds of winning any prize (in Lotto and Lotto Plus combined) at 1 in 10. When you play Lotto Plus you also gain automatic entry into the Lotto Plus Raffle. A four-digit number will be printed on your ticket and you win €500 if you match the number drawn as the winner.
Big Jackpots This Week
The Irish Lotto jackpot is now up to €6.2 million after it rolled over for a tenth consecutive draw on Saturday. It has not been so large since a syndicate from Cork won €8.3 million on 4th August. The Cork winners described it as a ‘surreal feeling’ when they came forward almost a month later.
There will also be a top prize of €70 million up for grabs in EuroMillions on Friday night. The jackpot was most recently won on 16th November by a player from Belgium, but has proved to be elusive for the past five draws.
