The Irish Lotto player from Limerick who won a jackpot of €5.8 million on Saturday 25th November has set their sights on an early retirement, a holiday in the sun and some extravagant Christmas presents after coming forward to claim their prize.
The lucky winner, who bought their Quick Pick ticket at the Limerick General Post Office on the day of the draw, visited Irish National Lottery headquarters on Friday to pick up their cheque and share their story. They have decided to remain anonymous, but said the feeling was ‘indescribable’.
Out-of-body experience
“It was kind of like an out-of-body experience! It’s fantastic – and to happen just before Christmas. The whole family will be getting slightly more extravagant Christmas presents than originally planned,” said the winner.
“Retirement is the last thing on my mind at the moment but with this magnificent windfall, I am definitely going to take it a few years early. I am delighted, I didn’t even check my ticket initially.
“In fact it went out of my head completely until I was listening to Limerick Live 95FM the next day and they were talking about the Limerick Lotto win. I went out and checked the ticket using the Lottery App and lo and behold it was me.”
Christmas Dinner
The winner is looking forward to a trip to Barbados after Christmas, but there is one other task to focus on before they can jet off to the Caribbean. They said: “I still have to cook Christmas dinner for the entire family but this year my win will make it a lot more pleasant!”
The Irish Lotto jackpot has rolled over twice since the Limerick player struck lucky, and will be up to an estimated €3 million for the next draw on Wednesday night. If you want to try and follow in their footsteps, you can bet online or visit any authorised retailer. Good luck!
