One lucky ticket holder from Emo in Co Laois is €500,000 richer after matching all five numbers in Tuesday night’s EuroMillions Plus draw. The player, who is yet to collect their prize from National Lottery headquarters in Dublin, has become the fifth winner of the jackpot in the space of just ten draws.
The jackpot winner purchased their winning €3.50 Quick Pick entry from the Gandon Inn Daybreak in the quaint midlands village on the day of the draw. The win came as music to the ears of the store’s proprietor, Tom Treacy, who told reporters about how the positive news had stirred the locals and resulted in “lots of well wishers” visiting the shop. He also revealed that this was the second winning ticket the service station had sold in the last two-and-a-half years, with another fortuitous punter claiming a Lotto prize of €350,000 after visiting the shop.
This wasn't the only ticket holder from the county celebrating winning a tidy sum this week, after good fortune favoured a lottery fan in the Lotto Plus 2 draw on Saturday 15th April. The lucky ticket holder bought their €250,000 winning entry from Clelands Supermarket in Abbeyleix just hours before the draw deadline. Understandably overjoyed at selling the victorious ticket, the retail chain felt it fit to share the news with its followers on social media: “We would like to congratulate the lucky winners, although we do not know whom that may be. Another great day for Clelands and the town of Abbeyleix.”
Of course, you don’t need to live in Laois to win a superb lottery prize. Tonight sees EuroMillions celebrate its 1,000th draw with a jackpot of €36 million up for grabs, while Saturday's Irish Lotto draw will be worth an estimated €9.5 million.
