A syndicate of seven Irish Lotto players, who bought their ticket for the draw on Saturday 9th May in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, have collected their prize from lottery headquarters in Dublin. The group, who have played Irish Lotto since it began in 1988, scooped €5.9 million in the draw, dwarfing their previous best-ever winning tally of €56.
Each member of the syndicate banked €842,994 after being presented with a cheque at a champagne reception, where the group’s spokesman declared, “When I checked the ticket, I couldn’t believe it. It still doesn’t feel real for us. We’re delighted.”
The win proved that lightning can strike twice, with the anonymous group having purchased their entry into the draw at the same Tesco store which sold a €10.5 million winning ticket in May 2013 to Carol Loran and Kevin Geoghegan.
The group’s winning numbers were 2, 5, 13, 17, 32 and 34 and you can see a full prize breakdown from that, and every Irish Lotto draw, at the Lottery Results section.
You could follow in the lucky syndicate’s footsteps and be cracking open the bubbly in the capital if you were to win tonight’s €5 million Irish Lotto jackpot or even Friday’s extraordinary €100 million EuroMillions Superdraw. You can choose your numbers online through the Bet Online page or visit an authorised retailer anywhere in the Republic to get hold of physical entries. Just watch out for the queues at the Tesco in Mullingar, where excited lottery fans will be hoping for some of the shop’s good luck to rub off on them!
