Irish National Lottery Extends Claims Period
Last Updated: Monday 20th April 2020, 14:41 pm
Winners of Irish National Lottery prizes have been assured that they will have longer to claim prizes during the coronavirus outbreak. The rules have been updated to discourage players from leaving home to make unnecessary journeys at the current time.
Normal rules allow 90 days from the date of a draw for winners to claim prizes. For now, though, all players will have an additional three months to come forward.
The updated rules have been back-dated to allow anyone who won a prize from 9th January 2020, up until 5th July, extra time to stake a claim. It applies for prizes of all games - Lotto, Lotto Plus, Lotto 54321, EuroMillions and EuroMillions Plus, Telly Bingo, Daily Millions and Daily Millions Plus.
The extension applies to winners who have played in-store or online, and for prizes of all values. Go to the How to Claim page to find out more about the process for claiming prizes.
The current crisis has seen restrictions introduced across the country, affecting virtually every aspect of daily life. Many shops are now closed, while the lottery’s Dublin headquarters has reduced its opening hours. Big winners have to phone up to make an appointment to claim prizes.
With this extension in place, players should not worry about missing out on their prizes. They are advised to keep winning tickets safe and keep following the guidelines regarding social and physical distancing.
€9.7 Million Irish Lotto Jackpot Won
An Irish Lotto player from County Kerry is among those winners who will now have extra time to claim after landing the largest jackpot of 2020 so far in Saturday night’s draw. They scooped €9.7 million to bring an end to a run of 19 rollovers.
The lucky ticket holder matched the numbers 4, 9, 15, 27, 29 and 34. The name of the winning store is set to be announced in the next couple of days.
The Bonus Ball on Saturday was 17. Three players - one from Carlow, one from Dublin and one from Galway – matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball to win €36,453 each. Head over to the Irish Lotto Results page to see a full prize breakdown.
The jackpot had not previously been won since Saturday 8th February, and the long sequence of rollovers produced one of the largest prizes seen on Irish Lotto in recent times.
The last time a bigger jackpot was put up for grabs was on 21st August last year, when a player from County Wicklow landed €11.2 million. The all-time record jackpot was set in June 2008 – a syndicate of 16 co-workers from County Carlow shared more than €18 million.
