Irish Lotto-Winning Parents Set to Turn Dreams into Reality

Last Updated: Thursday 27th April 2017, 09:29 am

For many players of the Irish Lotto, winning a major sum of money would result in sun-soaked getaways and luxurious shopping trips, but for one family from Co Meath, collecting a cheque for €45,742 will finally allow them to turn their dreams into reality.

Duleek residents Karl and Andrea Scarff, along with their two sons, seven-year-old Jack and seven-month-old James, had been struggling to gather the funds required for a deposit on a house of their own, as they lived out their days in rented accommodation. Playing the same numbers online for two years, the parents often fantasised about what it would be like to have enough money to secure a place they could call home. Fortunately for the couple, Lady Luck was on hand to answer their prayers.

With Andrea out celebrating a friend’s 40th birthday, Karl was at home with the kids when he decided to watch the Irish Lotto draw live on TV. The Liverpool-supporting electrician watched with delight as his ticket matched five of the six numbers in Saturday’s main draw along with the Bonus Ball. “I was speechless when my numbers came up,” Karl told reporters. “My first thoughts were ‘this is enough to put a deposit on a house’. For us this is life changing,” he smiled.

Wasting little time, Karl and Andrea, who were one of three winners of the Match 5+1 prize, headed straight for National Lottery headquarters in Dublin to collect their cheque. "We have enough money for a deposit for a three bedroom house,” the pair told officials. “We never thought we would see the day. We are now going straight to meet a friend who is a mortgage broker to apply for a home loan. This win means so much to us.”

Of course, the win wasn’t just music to the ears of the overjoyed couple, as Andrea revealed that their son Jack had been pestering his parents for some time about when the family would be moving: “We haven’t told him the news yet. He is in school today and it is business as normal. But he will be thrilled,” she said.

If you would like the chance to follow in the footsteps of Karl and Andrea and live out your dreams with the help of an Irish Lotto win, this Saturday’s jackpot is an estimated €11 million, a sum that has been on the rise ever since Wednesday 1st March. To enter, simply pick your numbers online or play via any authorised retailer throughout the Republic. Good luck.
