The Irish Lotto draw on Saturday 5th September marked the start of a new era as changes to the game came into effect for the first time. Nobody managed to land the jackpot of €5.2 million, but over 51,000 players won prizes as many ticket holders benefited from the changes. Visit the Irish Lotto page to find out all about how the game is now played.
Participants could select six numbers from a choice of 47 for the first time on Saturday, an increase from the previous pool of 45, but neither of the two newly-available numbers were drawn on the night. The numbers drawn were 7, 9, 17, 20, 26 and 27 with Bonus Ball 40, and there were 45 players who matched five main numbers to each earn €928. There were 15,831 ticket holders who slotted into the new prize tier for matching two main numbers plus the Bonus Ball. Previously these players would have been unrewarded, but they are now all winners of a €3 scratchcard. The remaining Irish Lotto prizes ranged from €7 for matching three main numbers to €191 for matching four main numbers plus the Bonus Ball.
There have also been changes in Lotto Plus to make the game more exciting, and the biggest winners on the night were the two players who matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball in Lotto Plus 1 to pocket €5,000 each, which is a bigger fixed prize than it was before. The Lotto Plus Raffle gives ticket holders an extra chance to snap up money, and 110 participants matched the winning code of 7346 to bag €300 each. The Irish Lotto jackpot will rise to an estimated €6 million for the next draw on Wednesday night following Saturday’s rollover. Nobody has been able to grab the top prize since Saturday 8th August, when a duo on holiday in Rosslare matched all six main numbers to win €2.5 million.
