€2.4M Irish Lotto Jackpot Won by Ticket Holder in Co Donegal

€2.4M Irish Lotto Jackpot Won by Ticket Holder in Co Donegal

Last Updated: Tuesday 27th September 2022, 08:59 am

One Lotto player in Co Donegal hit the jackpot in Saturday’s draw to win a prize worth over €2.4 million. It is the second time that the jackpot has been won in the space of a week.

The winner now has 90 days to claim the seven-figure prize. The National Lottery has revealed the county in which the winning ticket was purchased to encourage players to check their entries. The retailer that sold the winning ticket will be revealed after the good news has been shared with them.

“Last night’s draw produced more than 101,000 winners across the country,” a National Lottery spokesperson said. “We’re asking everyone who bought a ticket for last night’s Lotto draws to check those tickets, especially if you played in Co. Donegal.

“With a jackpot win of this magnitude, it is important that we inform the winning retailer and of course to give the winning ticket holder the time and space they need to let this €2.4 million win sink in.”

The winning numbers from the 22nd August Lotto draw were 4, 5, 12, 15, 16, and 31, with Bonus Ball 23. The jackpot winner from Co Donegal matched the six main numbers to land a prize worth €2,482,715. There were more than 42,000 prize winners in the draw in total, taking the prize fund to over €2.8 million, but there were no jackpot winners in either of the Lotto Plus games.

The National Lottery urged the winner to keep the ticket safe and contact its prize claims team to begin the payout process.

It’s the ninth Irish Lotto jackpot win of the year and the second to be won in the space of a week. A ticket holder from Galway hit a jackpot worth €7.3 million on Saturday 15th August and the National Lottery revealed a few days after the win - at about the same time that the winner claimed the prize - that the winning ticket had been purchased from the family-run Rogan’s Gala store in Clifden.

Joe Rogan, the owner of the store, said: “Honestly, I am in a state of shock and I’m not even the one who has won the €7.3 million jackpot! This is a very sweet win for us. I only took over the running of the store in the past year so it is an unbelievable bonus for us that we should have a Lotto jackpot winner in our first year in business.

“You have no idea what a big Lotto win brings to the town. There is a massive sense of excitement, delight for the winner and of course a little bit of speculation as to who the winner is, which is to be expected!”

The Lotto jackpot reset to its starting value of €2 million for the following draw on Wednesday 19th August, but it was not won so rolled over to be worth €2.4 million on Saturday, when the as-yet-unknown ticket holder from Co Donegal won it all.
