The changes made to Irish Lotto in early September have seen more than 840,000 players win bigger prizes. More than €20.1 million has been awarded to 840,932 winners of Irish Lotto or scratchcard games in the seven weeks after the rules changed, with just €17.6 million paid out to 1.2 million winners in the seven-week run-up to the changes. Since the 3rd of September, a total of €10.3 million has also been awarded in jackpots, with just €8.8 million paid out in top prizes in the seven weeks before the changes were made.
National Lottery officials are already hailing the Irish Lotto changes as a success - while fewer players are winning prizes, they are clearly winning more than they did under the old game rules. When the ball pool expanded last month, the odds of hitting the jackpot were set at 1 in 10.7 million, but the overall odds of winning a prize dropped from 1 in 42 to 1 in 29 thanks to the creation of a brand-new prize tier. Players who match two main numbers and the Bonus Ball now receive a scratchcard worth €3.
Of the two new balls, only number 46 has made an appearance in the main Irish Lotto line so far, with number 47 yet to make its debut. Visit the Irish Lotto Statistics page to learn about commonly drawn numbers, the digits that are most overdue, numbers picked the least and much more.
Tonight’s Irish Lotto jackpot is worth an estimated 5.5 million, with entries ready for purchase online or from authorised retailers across the Republic. Pick those numbers, cross your fingers and get ready to dream about what you’d do with the cash if you won!
