Galway Council Workers Clean Up With €5.5 Million Lotto Win

A syndicate of Galway City Council workers have come forward to claim the €5.5 million Irish Lotto jackpot that was won on Wednesday 3rd August.
The group, known as the Magnificent Ten, have been playing together for more than 20 years. They have previously contemplated changing their numbers, while one member almost left the syndicate just a few months ago, but they have kept persisting and have now been rewarded more handsomely than they ever could have imagined.
The winning numbers for 3rd August - 9, 10, 17, 32, 33 and 39 - matched one of the syndicate’s lines exactly, and they have wasted little time in collecting the money.
Having worked hard for so many years to keep their city clean, they are now looking forward to a bright future, with each member of the group set to become around €554,000 richer.
Speaking about the long wait for their luck to turn, the syndicate’s spokesperson said: “The lads thought about changing the numbers at one stage, but decided against making any changes.
“Just last Christmas, one member mentioned that he was going to leave the syndicate, but he was persuaded to stay on and was told it was only the price of a pint and a newspaper. Luckily, he stayed as the syndicate winning numbers appeared on the August 3rd Lottery draw.”
Another syndicate member added: “Someone said that we ‘cleaned up’ and we did, but us lads clean up every day by ensuring the streets and parks in Galway city are spotless. We’re proud of our city. Unlike the ‘magnificent seven’ -these ‘magnificent ten’ can now all ride off into the sunset with their lottery win secured.”
The winning ticket was sold at the Newspoint newsagent, Unit 25, Galway Shopping Centre, on the Headford Road on Sunday 31st July.
There have now been seven Lotto jackpot winners this year, including the biggest of all time. That came back in January, when a family syndicate from Castlebar in Co Mayo claimed €19 million.
All prizes must be claimed within 90 days of a draw taking place. If you’re not sure if you’re a winner, you can use the Lotto Checker to find out by comparing your numbers to the official results.
