A couple from Dublin were left “dumbfounded” after discovering that they had won a Lotto Plus 2 jackpot of €250,000. The husband and wife pair landed the prize after matching all six numbers in the draw on Wednesday 8th February and credit their win to a spot of handbag spring cleaning.
Having purchased their Quick Pick entry on the day of the draw from the Tesco store on Main Street in Shankill, Co Dublin, the anonymous pair collected their prize on Friday from National Lottery headquarters in the nation’s capital. Understandably overjoyed, the wife of the pair explained how the couple aren’t always on the ball when it comes to examining their playslips: "I am usually very bad at checking my tickets and I would only every check them if I had heard of a big win in the area,” she told lottery officials.
News of the couple’s win didn’t come to light until a chance visit to their local store: "By chance, I was in the local shop and I realised that I had a handbag full of lottery tickets which hadn’t been checked,” the wife explained. “When the shopkeeper scanned all of the tickets, she handed me a small slip of paper and told me to ring the National Lottery about one of them."
Giddy with excitement, the couple did just that, but were blown away when it was revealed how much they had actually won. "I assumed that the ticket was worth a few bob but I was completely dumbfounded when I was told that I had won a quarter of a million euro," beamed the wife.
