Cork Punter Wins €16,000 From a 50 Cent EuroMillions Bet

A EuroMillions Plus bet made by a punter from Cork has scooped the lucky player €16,000 from just a 50 cent stake. The 33,000/1 wager on four numbers in the pan-European lottery’s Irish supplementary game saw them become the third big winner from a small-stakes lottery punt with bookmaker Boylesports in the past few days.
Representing the bookie, Liam Glynn admitted the three wins alone had set the firm back almost €100,000 and suggested the recent publicity surrounding the successes could lead to more players indulging in Irish Lottery betting. “Interest in our lottery bets are continuing to grow on a daily basis due to the attractive odds,” said Glynn, “and no doubt following the latest coup from lucky punters, news will travel fast and we will see a further spike in numbers betting.”
The latest winner matched 1, 11, 17 and 27 in the draw on Tuesday night, placing €6 in total on various bets, but winning with one that cost just 50 cents to play. This good fortune followed the news that a Tipperary punter had claimed €33,001 for matching four main numbers in Friday’s main EuroMillions draw.
Many punters are choosing to wager on lotteries in this manner, thanks to the potential returns available, with payouts for matching just a few numbers vastly exceeding those won when playing lotteries in the usual manner. However, bettors must match all the numbers they pick to win and cannot play for the multimillion-Euro jackpots, such as tonight’s €54 million EuroMillions extravaganza.
