The Irish Lotto jackpot of €11.1 million was won by a Leitrim player on Saturday 20th August, following a run of 16 rollovers since a single ticket holder scooped €5.8 million on Wednesday 22nd June. Saturday’s haul was the second-largest top prize received by an Irish Lotto player in 2016, behind the €13.7 million claimed by a family from Belmullet in Co Mayo.
The winning ticket was bought at the Spar in Kinlough and bears the winning numbers 10, 11, 12, 15, 18 and 19. No one managed to match five main numbers and the Bonus Ball, which was 35, but more than 70,000 players won prizes in the main draw alone, ranging from a €3 scratchcard for matching two main numbers and the Bonus Ball to €988 for the 62 ticket holders who matched five main balls. You can find the full prize breakdown from Irish Lotto, and results and prize details from Lotto Plus 1, Lotto Plus 2 and Lotto Plus Raffle, at the Lottery Results page.
Rumours as to the identity of the winner are rife in Kinlough, which boasts a population of just 300 people. “Apparently everyone was talking about it in the pubs last night. They couldn’t believe it, that it was in our village, so small you know,” said a spokeswoman for the village shop at which the lucky player bought their ticket. The Spar had previously sold a €250,000-winning lottery entry last autumn.
Saturday’s winner finds themselves in the list of the top 20 Irish Lotto millionaires, according to the Irish Lottery. There have now been 20 jackpots in the history of the game worth more than €10 million.
