As Ireland gears up for a massive €9 million Irish Lotto draw this evening, a woman from Co Tipperary is still coming to terms with bagging the €1 million top prize from the 2015 Christmas Millionaire Raffle. The winner, who has chosen to stay anonymous, her husband and their daughters picked up their oversized cheque from the Lottery headquarters in Dublin this week and she revealed the lucky ticket had been a Christmas gift from her brother.
The sibling had purchased the winning slip, along with a number of others for family members, from a service station in Tipperary five days before Christmas. The €1 million code 098 211 was drawn on New Year’s Eve, with the winner discovering her good fortune the next day when her sister rang to say she had heard on the radio that the lucky ticket had been sold in the town.
After checking and rechecking the ticket, the couple invited family members over for a celebratory party, ensuring the lucrative slip was secured in a friend’s business safe until they could make the trip to the capital. The family will spend some of their winnings on a sunshine break, but are not rushing into any major purchasing decisions just yet. However, the winner’s brother has vowed to buy her candles next Christmas instead of another lottery ticket!
If you are yet to check your tickets for this special draw, you could have won anything from €500 to the second prize of €250,000. Take a look and the codes drawn at the Christmas Millionaire Raffle page.
