The winner of a €6.4 million Irish Lotto jackpot has made contact with National Lottery officials in Dublin more than a month after initially winning the sum. The lucky ticket holder, who has opted to remain anonymous, landed the sizeable seven-figure sum after matching the numbers 7, 16, 18, 20, 24 and 37 in the draw on Wednesday 5th July.
The winning Quick Pick entry was purchased from Argue’s Londis Store in the market town of Cootehill, Co Cavan, on Sunday 2nd July. A spokesperson for the National Lottery confirmed that the fortuitous lottery fan had been in touch and that arrangements were already being made for them to collect their prize.
As well as being incredible news for the winning player, the victory was also greeted warmly by the owner of the shop which sold the ticket. Jim Argue revealed to journalists that there has been a good feeling amongst local residents ever since: “The whole town is absolutely buzzing, there’s great excitement locally as people wake up to news that there’s been a huge Lotto win in the town.”
However, Jim wasn’t about to start speculating as to who the winner could be: "The store is on a busy road and we do get a lot of passing trade so we don't know if it was sold to someone locally or someone passing through but best wishes to whoever won it.”
Meanwhile, National Lottery officials are appealing for the winner of a €250,000 Lotto Plus 2 prize to make themselves known as soon as possible. The mystery ticket holder bought their Quick Pick ticket from the Supervalu store on Railway Road in Kenmare, Co Kerry, ahead of the draw on Saturday 17th June. They correctly matched the numbers 1, 17, 30, 33, 35 and 43 and have until Friday 15th September to make a claim.
