Kildare Brothers Thank Mum’s Irish Lotto Rituals After Jackpot Win

A couple of brothers from Co Kildare have said they will never complain about their mother’s fascination with Irish Lotto again after they came forward to cash in a €2 million jackpot win. The pair won the top prize in the draw on Wednesday 31st May, having bought their ticket at Kennedy’s Topaz in Carrick-on-Shannon after stopping for petrol.
One of the duo suggested they should go halves on a Lotto ticket as they parked, and his brother has now described him as an ‘absolute genius’ after they made contact with Irish National Lottery officials to claim their prize. They have decided to keep their identities private, but have revealed that they gave their mother the job of checking the winning numbers.
“Every week, religiously, our mother sits in front of the TV and circles the winning numbers on her lotto ticket as they are called out. It’s a ritual for her,” said one of the brothers. “We rarely play the Lotto so we gave her our ticket to check. We were in the kitchen and she ran in from the sitting room screaming that we had six numbers and we had won the jackpot. We were absolutely stunned.”
He added: “It can be sometimes annoying in our house if we are watching a live football game on TV and our mother will insist on switching the channel for a few minutes to watch the Lotto draw. But we won’t complain again.”
The two brothers, who are both young professionals, admit that it will take a while for them to get used to being millionaires and they will just enjoy some quiet family celebrations for now as they consider what to do with their futures.
The winners have also been congratulated by Kevin Kennedy, the owner of the store which sold the lucky ticket. He said: “There has been a great buzz in the shop since we sold the winning ticket. We wish the brothers the very best of luck in the future.”
The Irish Lotto jackpot has rolled over four times since the brothers landed their big win, and will now stand at €4 million for Saturday night’s draw. If you would like to try and win, you can bet online or visit any authorised retailer in Ireland. Good luck!
