A man from the Midlands is set to give his family a Christmas they will never forget after winning €100,000 on an Irish Lotto scratchcard. The lucky winner revealed that his loved ones would each be receiving something very special on the big day after his extra slice of Yuletide good fortune.
A Christmas Miracle
The man, originally from Romania, recently lost his job and feared that his family would be forced to skimp on the festive celebrations this year. However, the 28-year-old secured a remarkable win after purchasing a National Lottery Christmas Countdown scratchcard from Mace in Monard, Co. Tipperary, and now looks set to enjoy a fabulous end to 2017.
Understandably overwhelmed by his recent win, the man, who has lived in Ireland for six years, told reporters that he has not informed his family of his windfall. Instead, the lucky winner plans to surprise each of his nearest and dearest by leaving gift wrapped cheques for €10,000 under the Christmas tree.
“I cannot wait to see their faces when they open the boxes on Christmas morning and see what is inside,” the man told National Lottery officials. “I am going to say nothing about this win until then.”
Christmas Cheer at National Lottery HQ
The man, who has opted to remain anonymous, was one of three scratchcard winners to collect prizes from National Lottery headquarters on Wednesday, with the trio of rewards totalling €150,000. A lottery spokesperson also revealed that ticket sales for the upcoming Christmas Millionaire Raffle are booming, with guaranteed prizes of €1 million, €250,000 and €100,000 up for grabs, as well as plenty more cash rewards.
