Biggest Irish Lotto Jackpot For Five Years
Last Updated: Thursday 2nd September 2021, 09:55 am
The Irish Lotto jackpot has climbed past €13 million following a run of rollovers stretching back to early June, making it the biggest prize to have been seen on the game for more than five years.
A number of players have come close to scooping the eight-figure payout over the past few weeks, but it has remained tantalisingly out of reach. In the most recent draw, on Wednesday 1st September, one ticket holder matched five of the main numbers plus the Bonus Ball to win €127,549. Another 46 participants matched five main numbers to pocket €775 each.
There have now been 25 consecutive draws without a winner, putting the jackpot within reach of its all-time record.
Biggest Irish Lotto Wins
The last time that a larger jackpot was put up for grabs was back in January 2016, when a Co Mayo player landed €13.7 million.
The record stands at €18.9 million and dates back to June 2008. A syndicate of 16 quarry workers from Bennekerry in Co Carlow - featuring 15 men and one woman - claimed the money with a €32 Quick Pick. Despite winning more than €1.1 million each, some members of the group still turned up for work the next day.
It looked like that record might be eclipsed in 2010, when the jackpot twice got past €16 million, but on both occasions it was won before overtaking the high mark. An anonymous player from Dungarvan in Co Waterford banked €16.7 million in April of that year, and a man from Dublin picked up €16.3 million six months later in October.

It could be that the current jackpot goes on to top the list, and it may only take a few more draws to create history. The rate of ticket sales usually increases as the jackpot grows. Back in 2008, it jumped up by more than €2 million between draws before the record €18.9 million was snapped up.
