A lucky syndicate are €12.8 million richer after ending a run of 18 consecutive rollovers to win the first Irish Lotto jackpot of 2017. The ticket, which successfully matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s draw, was purchased from Supervalu in Knocklyon, Dublin and has become the winner of the game’s largest prize since January 2016.
The winning numbers were 2, 15, 19, 26, 37 and 38, with 39 being randomly selected as the Bonus Ball. In addition to the biggest prize winner on the night, one fortuitous lottery fan scooped a prize worth €179,034 after matching five main numbers and the Bonus Ball. There were a further 48,563 winners, all of whom landed prizes ranging from a €3 scratch card to €1,798 on what proved to be a prosperous night for Lotto lovers. This latest jackpot win is the first time the game’s top prize has been claimed since Christmas Eve, when a family from Co Cavan walked away with a sum of €4.5 million. Despite its tremendous size, Wednesday night’s jackpot was still some way off matching the biggest prize ever claimed in Irish Lotto history. That honour remains with a syndicate from the Dan Morrissey Ltd quarry and concrete plant in Bennekerry, Co Carlow who won €18.9 million in June 2008.
The jackpot winner now has 90 days to come forward and collect their prize. In the meantime, you can look forward to Saturday’s €2 million Irish Lotto draw.
