Irish Lotto Player Lands €5.8 Million Jackpot

Last Updated: Thursday 23rd June 2016, 09:00 am

A single Irish Lotto ticket holder from Dundalk has matched all six main numbers in Wednesday’s draw to end a run of eight rollovers and scoop €5.8 million. It is one of the largest prizes to have been given away this year and definitely added more joy to an incredible night as the nation enjoyed the Republic’s historic victory over Italy at Euro 2016.

As legions of football fans enjoyed watching the dramatic 1-0 win in their front rooms or the local pub, one lucky Irish Lotto participant may have also discovered that they had become a multimillionaire after the numbers 6, 16, 23, 28, 32 and 35 were drawn. The ticket was a Quick Pick and was bought on the day of the draw at the Ranch Shop & Deli in Lisdoo, Dundalk, Co Louth.

The Bonus Ball was 4 and there were over 36,000 other prizes won on the night, ranging from a €3 scratchcard for matching two main numbers plus the Bonus Ball to €1,082 for matching five main numbers. Visit the Irish Lotto Results page for more information, including a full prize breakdown and details of the Lotto Plus 1, Lotto Plus 2 and Lotto Plus Raffle games.

The latest jackpot success marks the fourth-largest prize to be won on Irish Lotto this year, and there will be keen interest to see who comes forward to claim the money and whether they reveal their identity. The winners of any Irish lottery prize can decide to stay anonymous or go public, and also have 90 days from the date of the draw to step forward.

A Dublin family has this week exercised their right to stay private and wait a while to collect their money. They paid a visit to National Lottery headquarters to pick up a €191,461 cheque for winning a EuroMillions prize on Friday 29th April. The family, who bought their ticket in Castleknock Village, Dublin, matched five main numbers plus one Lucky Star.

There will be more chances to win great prizes in the next few days, with Friday night’s EuroMillions draw offering an enormous jackpot of €40 million and a €2 million top prize on offer in Irish Lotto this Saturday. Tickets can be bought from authorised retailers or online, and you could just make it a magical weekend even before the Republic of Ireland’s next Euro 2016 game against France on Sunday. Best of luck!
