Longford Farmer Wants Bull and Tractor With Lotto Winnings

Last Updated: Tuesday 18th June 2019, 14:49 pm

A farmer from County Longford will now be able to buy a tractor and a bull after winning big on the Irish Lotto. The lucky ticket holder says his unexpected windfall will give him a much more comfortable future in a tough industry.

He matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball in the Irish Lotto draw on Saturday 8th June, pocketing €238,673. Having bought his entry at O’Brien’s Corner House on Lanesboro Road in Lanesboro, he has quickly come forward to claim his prize from National Lottery headquarters in Dublin.

Speaking about the moment he discovered his good fortune, the man, who has decided to remain anonymous, told lottery officials: “My brother sent me a message that he heard that there had been a win in Lanesboro. I went to my local shop, checked the ticket and it said I was a winner.”

The big win gives the farmer plenty of options for what to do next, and he intends to put some of the money towards his business. Speaking alongside family members as he collected his prize, the winner also admitted that the main benefit would just be the financial security that it will provide.

“Before this, I had been considering getting a new tractor and I was also thinking of getting a bull,” he said. “I suppose now I can take my time to make up my mind, and sure I may decide to get both!”

The man added: “I am absolutely delighted to have won this prize. It will surely be a big bit of comfort for me. Farming, of course, is a tough industry so it’s nice to have the extra money.”

Jackpots on the Rise

The farmer just missed out on the jackpot on Saturday 8th June, but one lucky ticket holder from County Galway did scoop the top prize of €4 million. He has since come forward to claim his prize, revealing that he ‘couldn’t sleep a wink’ and had to walk around town all night as his mind was ‘in overdrive’.

The Irish Lotto jackpot has rolled over twice since the Galway winner matched all six main numbers and now stands at an estimated €3 million ahead of the next draw on Wednesday. EuroMillions, meanwhile, is up to €25 million. Whichever game you fancy trying to win, you can check the latest results straight after draws take place.
