Lifford’s Irish Lotto Jackpot Winner Makes Contact

Lifford’s Irish Lotto Jackpot Winner Makes Contact

Last Updated: Thursday 1st February 2018, 10:04 am

Irish National Lottery officials have confirmed that the winner of the Irish Lotto jackpot from Saturday 13th January has made contact. The lucky ticket was sold in Donegal, close to the border with Northern Ireland, and speculation about the winner’s identity has been growing for the past couple of weeks.

Austin Daly, the owner of Daly’s Topaz in Lifford which sold the winning ticket, told the press that he hoped the player was local when he spoke about the news straight after the draw, but reports soon emerged that the ticket belonged to a syndicate of taxi drivers from the town of Strabane just over the border.

The mystery could now be resolved soon, with a National Lottery spokesman confirming that they have been ‘contacted by the ticket holder and arrangements are being made for the claim to be made’.

What Happens Now?

Irish Lotto winners have 90 days from the date of the draw to come forward and claim their money. Once they have taken the first step and made contact, like the player from Lifford, the claim must be verified. This involves a meeting where the ticket will be validated, the winner provides identification and the necessary paperwork will be completed.

Winners can decide to remain anonymous or go public. It is therefore possible that no more information will be disclosed about the lucky player from Lifford, although they could still share some details of their story without going public.

Big EuroMillions Jackpot

While the Irish Lotto jackpot has not been won again since the player from Lifford matched all six main numbers and is now up to €4.5 million following another rollover on Wednesday, the top prize in EuroMillions is worth an astonishing €110 million.

Ireland was the last country to celebrate EuroMillions success, when a family syndicate from Dublin won €38.9 million on Friday 29th December, and it could just be that the feelgood factor continues this Friday. You can get involved by visiting any authorised retailer or choosing numbers online. Good luck!
