Cavan Family Syndicate Wins $1 Million Lotto Plus Prize

A family syndicate from Co Cavan has come forward quickly to claim a €1 million prize won on Saturday night. The lucky players matched all the numbers in the Lotto Plus 1 draw to become the seventh jackpot winners on the game this year.
The winning numbers for Lotto Plus 1 on 20th July were 1, 11, 14, 26, 44 and 47, with Bonus Ball 3. It was later announced that a sole entry had landed the jackpot, and the ticket holders only waited a few days before visiting the National Lottery’s Dublin HQ to collect their cheque.
Recalling how they had discovered their big win, the head of the syndicate revealed that they thought one of their kids was playing a prank. They said: “We were just about to head up to bed on Saturday night when I remembered that I had a Lotto ticket tucked away in my pocket. I asked one of the adult children to call out the numbers so I could mark them off.
“When we got to the Lotto Plus 1 draw, they called out every single number one by one. I thought there’s absolutely no way that’s possible. I genuinely thought that they were winding me up and playing a joke if they’d already seen what numbers I had on my ticket!”
The family had to repeatedly check the numbers online and scan their ticket on the app to convince themselves they had won. They had bought their Quick Pick entry on the day of the draw at the Spar/Texaco service station on the Ballinagh Road in Cavan Town.
Reflecting on their emotions over the last few days, the syndicate leader added: “The scale of the win really doesn’t hit home properly until you see the cheque for €1m – it’s just surreal.” The family will now pay off their mortgage and other bills before taking some time out to consider any big purchases they might want to make.
Irish Lotto Jackpot Hits €7.5 Million
While the family from Cavan won the Lotto Plus 1 jackpot on Saturday, the top prize in the main Lotto game remained just out of reach and there was another rollover in Wednesday’s draw.
It has now been growing since 8th June and is up to €7.5 million ahead of the next draw on Saturday, making it the largest jackpot seen on Lotto in five months. The biggest Lotto prize of the year, €10.2 million, went to a family syndicate from Dublin on 23rd February.
Even if you miss out on a prize in the main Lotto game, though, there are always more chances to snap up prizes if you have added the Lotto Plus option to your ticket. Your numbers are entered into two additional draws, Plus 1 and Plus 2, and you also receive a Lotto Plus Raffle code. A four-digit raffle code is selected on the night and you win €500 if you match it exactly in order. Check out the latest Lotto Results after every draw.
