Business Booms for Co Leitrim Store after Irish Lotto Jackpot Win

Business Booms for Co Leitrim Store after Irish Lotto Jackpot Win

Last Updated: Thursday 29th July 2021, 14:41 pm

As the wait goes on for the Irish Lotto winner from County Leitrim to come forward, the store which sold the all-important ticket is attracting business from all over the country as punters rush to see whether lightning might strike twice. There has still been no word from the player who matched all six main numbers on Saturday 20th August to win €11.1 million, and shop owner Noel McGowan says the rumour mill is now ‘up to 100 names’.

Irish Lotto winners have 90 days to claim any prizes won, so there is still a lot of time to claim this jackpot before the deadline of 18th November, but one good reason for coming forward early is that your money can start to accrue interest immediately. It has been calculated that the winner from Leitrim would have more than €4,200 in extra funds by now if they had claimed the money two weeks ago.

McGowan, who runs the Spar supermarket in Kinlough which sold the winning ticket, has been delighted with the sharp upturn in customers, but remains in the dark as to the possible identity of the winner. He said in the Irish Mirror: “It’s unbelievable how many people believe I could sell another multi-million jackpot winner. They are coming in from all over counties Leitrim, Sligo, Donegal, and even from Co Fermanagh across the border. Total strangers are dropping in to buy tickets.”

It is always important to check your tickets if you buy them from a retailer to make sure you don’t miss out on a prize, and it can sometimes be an unusual chain of events which jogs your memory and reminds you to look back at your numbers. For one recent Lotto winner from Rialto in Dublin, it was running out of a vital ingredient for a Sunday lunch.

“I was making the casserole yesterday when I realised I’d no carrots, so I popped out to the shop. I’d bought a ticket for the Lotto draw the day before and I’d usually not bother to check it until the following week, but I checked it there and then in the shop,” the lucky lady, who has decided to stay anonymous, told The Journal. She found out that she had won €114,752 on Irish Lotto after matching five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball in the draw on Saturday 3rd September, and admitted that she thought her ‘prayers had been answered’.

The Irish Lotto jackpot is now up to €4.5 million, providing another chance for players to win great prizes on Saturday night. You can buy tickets by visiting an authorised retailer, perhaps even the Spar in Kinlough if you’re local, or choose your numbers online to ensure you are notified automatically of any winnings. If you’re lucky enough to win, you can claim within 90 days and start earning interest on that massive windfall. Good luck!
