€6.1 Million Lotto Jackpot Won by Mystery Ticket-Holder

€6.1 Million Lotto Jackpot Won by Mystery Ticket-Holder

Last Updated: Tuesday 27th September 2022, 09:19 am

A sole ticket-holder from County Louth has won an Irish Lotto jackpot of €6.1 million. They were the only player to match all six numbers on the 18th May draw, and have become the second jackpot winner in County Louth this year.

The winning numbers for the 18th May Irish Lotto draw were 1, 7, 9, 18, 22 and 23, with a Bonus Ball of 17. Though the jackpot prize was won, there were no winners of the second prize tier. There were also no winners of either Lotto Plus or Lotto Plus 2. The jackpot-winning ticket was bought at Tesco Extra, on Donore Road in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

County Louth has been described as the “luckiest county in Ireland”, after statistical analysis of the county’s population revealed there are 5.9 jackpot winners for every 10,000 people - over 60% more than the national average of 3.6 per 10,000. County Laois sits at the bottom of the list, with 1.5 Lotto winners per 10,000 people.  A spokesperson for the National Lottery had this to say of the Co. Louth: “[It] may be Ireland’s smallest county, but when it comes to Lotto wins it is really punching above its weight. So far this year, half of our Lotto jackpot wins have come from [County Louth].”

€1 Million Lotto Plus Prize Collected by Dublin Work Syndicate

Co. Louth’s Irish Lotto jackpot win comes only two days after a €1 million Lotto Plus prize was collected by a work syndicate from Dublin. The Dubliners were the only winners of a top tier prize on Wednesday 15th May. The winning numbers for the Lotto Plus 1 draw were 2, 13, 15, 34, 38, 40 and a Bonus Ball of 37.

The five-person work syndicate bought their winning ticket from Texaco Spar Express on Crumlin Rd, but didn’t discover their €1 million prize until Thursday night. "We only discovered we won when one of the members sent a message to the WhatsApp group,” said a member of the syndicate. “None of us believed him of course, but as soon as we saw the ticket we were excited. We barely had a wink of sleep last night as we knew we were coming into National Lottery HQ in the morning!"

The group also revealed that they would continue to play Irish Lotto, despite their Lotto Plus windfall: “It’s always a great topic of discussion between us all, where we bond over if we have won or not. It’s just we never actually expected to win!"

Irish Lotto draws take place every Wednesday and Saturday; entry starts at €4 for two lines, though for an extra €1 you can enter the additional “Plus” games – Lotto Plus, Lotto Plus 2 and the Plus Raffle – for even more chances to win a prize.
