Leinster Man Kept Winning EuroMillions Ticket in Wallet For Two Weeks

Leinster Man Kept Winning EuroMillions Ticket in Wallet For Two Weeks

Last Updated: Wednesday 17th October 2018, 15:25 pm

A EuroMillions player from Leinster has revealed that he was completely oblivious to the fact that he had won €500,000 two weeks prior, despite hearing about the results on the radio and having the all-important ticket in his wallet.

The lucky man landed the top prize in the supplementary EuroMillions Plus game on Friday 28th September, matching the winning numbers 11, 18, 22, 30 and 35. He had the radio on the next day when he heard that four players had won, but he did not think to check even after the broadcast alerted him to the locations where the winning tickets were sold.

Collecting his prize from National Lottery HQ on Tuesday, he explained: “I bought this ticket when travelling in Sligo for work. I had never been to that shop in my life so when I heard of the four EuroMillions Plus winners from that draw I never twigged it might be me as I live a fair bit away from Sligo. I even heard on the radio the next day there were four winners but it didn’t jar with me. I’m just thankful that I didn’t lose it.”

Having carried the ticket around with him in his wallet for a fortnight without realising, he finally got round to checking the results and was told by the shop assistant to contact the National Lottery. He said: “I checked on my phone straight away and saw that it was a winner. I drove straight home and said to my partner - ‘We’re rich’!"

Birthday Treat For Dublin Winner

Another winner also collected his prize on Tuesday after forgetting about his ticket for a few weeks. The retired man, a grandfather from Dublin, won €97,092 in the Irish Lotto draw on 15th September after matching five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball.

He was in no hurry to check the results, but having finally found about his success he is now looking forward to helping out his family. He said: “September 15 was my birthday as it happens! So I bought myself a Lotto ticket to celebrate. But I forgot about it for a few weeks and had a few tickets checked at the one time in my local shop. I couldn’t believe it when I was told to ring the National Lottery.

“I am a retired man with no major outlays but I have adult children and several grandchildren so I look forward to sharing the money with them. This will be a huge help to my family.”

If you want to try and win a fantastic prize like the Limerick man or the Dublin grandad, you can take part in one of this week’s big draws. The Irish Lotto jackpot is worth €3.2 million and EuroMillions is up to €50 million. If you play online, there is no danger of forgetting to check your numbers as you will be automatically informed if you have won a prize. Good luck!
