Identity of Irish EuroMillions Jackpot Winner Still Unknown

Identity of Irish EuroMillions Jackpot Winner Still Unknown

Last Updated: Wednesday 3rd February 2016, 10:18 am

The identity of the Irish EuroMillions player that scooped a share of the €132.3 million jackpot in last Friday’s draw is still unknown, despite confirmation that a claim had indeed been made. The colossal prize was split with a player in France, with each ticket holder receiving €66.1 million.

The winner, who becomes the fourth-largest jackpot winner in the country’s history, has been in touch with lottery officials to confirm that their ticket did indeed match the winning numbers of 1, 5, 23, 29, and 32 coupled with Lucky Stars 1 and 7: "They have been in contact with National Lottery HQ just to say 'we have got the winning ticket, we would like to come in and claim it',"  a spokeswoman for the National Lottery in Dublin confirmed.

In June 2013, a winning EuroMillions ticket worth €93.9 million was sold at a Mace shop in Beaumont, Dublin. Employee Susan Barry has warned that the latest winner’s identity may never be revealed, stating that the 2013 winner has never made themselves known to the public: “We weren’t told anything at the time or even what kind of a ticket it was so that they could protect his [the 2013 winner’s] anonymity,” Ms Barry told the Irish Independent.

Unfortunately, the mystery winner of this latest EuroMillions prize may have to wait until next week to claim their windfall. In an interview with RTE Radio One’s Morning Ireland, Dermot Griffin, Chief Executive of the National Lottery, explained that the money from the eight other participating countries had not yet been collected. Mr Griffin did, however, confirm that the winner had been in touch with lottery officials: "We congratulated the person in question and we gave them some advice, to sign the back of their ticket and to keep their ticket safe."

If you’d like to be in with a chance of winning the next EuroMillions jackpot and joining the illustrious list of Irish winners, you can buy your EuroMillions tickets online or from any authorised retailer in the Republic. The jackpot is again worth €15 million after a player from Spain bagged last night’s jackpot. Good luck!
