EuroMillions Jackpot Hits €140 Million

EuroMillions Jackpot Hits €140 Million

Last Updated: Tuesday 27th September 2022, 10:11 am

The EuroMillions jackpot has rocketed to an extraordinary €140 million for Tuesday’s draw, which will mark 14 years to the day since the game was launched.

EuroMillions History

There were only three participating countries for the first EuroMillions draw on 13th February 2004, with tickets sold in France, Spain and the UK. Ireland entered the game later the same year, in October, along with Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland.

The Emerald Isle has gone on to deliver 12 jackpot wins, including the most recent success on Friday 29th December when a family syndicate from Dublin scooped €38.9 million. A spokesperson for the group said they would not go crazy and there were ‘no plans to move to the moon’, but they were looking forward to having a sun holiday to either the Bahamas or the Maldives.

Gigantic Jackpot

The jackpot has been growing ever since the Dublin family struck lucky, and the run of rollovers stretched to 12 draws last Friday when nobody managed to match all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars. The biggest Irish winner was a player who matched five main numbers to pocket €49,825, while other rewards ranged from €5 for matching two main numbers to €3,749 for matching four main numbers plus both Lucky Stars. See the EuroMillions Results page for a full prize breakdown, plus details of the EuroMillions Plus results and the winning Irish Raffle codes.

The jackpot has only reached this level a few times in the 14-year history of EuroMillions, and nobody from Ireland has ever claimed more than the €115.4 million won by part-time cleaner Dolores McNamara back in July 2005.

If you are fortunate enough to land the jackpot on Tuesday, you could wake up on Valentine’s Day with a nine-figure bank balance and make it the perfect day for both you and your loved one. You can only win if you have taken part, though!
